{"id":1974,"date":"2015-07-02T11:14:45","date_gmt":"2015-07-02T16:14:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/basinbuddies.vu-la.com\/?p=1974"},"modified":"2025-04-21T00:35:20","modified_gmt":"2025-04-21T05:35:20","slug":"tnc-acquires-5000-acres-in-ab-floodway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/basinbuddies.org\/?p=1974","title":{"rendered":"TNC Acquires 5,000 Acres in AB Floodway!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>On July 2, 2015, The Nature Conservancy <a title=\"TNC Announcement\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.org\/ourinitiatives\/regions\/northamerica\/unitedstates\/louisiana\/explore\/atchafalaya-river-basin-initiative.xml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announced<\/a> the&nbsp;addition of 5,359 acres in the Atchafalaya River Basin to their&nbsp;preserve system!&nbsp;The&nbsp;acquisition in the <a title=\"Location Map\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.org\/ourinitiatives\/regions\/northamerica\/unitedstates\/louisiana\/explore\/atchafalaya-basin-preserve-map-06-2015.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bayou Sorrel region<\/a> &#8220;marks&nbsp;the first step in a long-term vision to conserve and restore America\u2019s great swamp forest.&#8221; according to the <a title=\"TNC Press Release\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.org\/ourinitiatives\/regions\/northamerica\/unitedstates\/louisiana\/explore\/atchfalaya-acq-press-release-06-2015.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">press release<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The newly-acquired land, along with adjacent State Land parcels in the Pigeon Bay and Flat Lake [aka East Grand Lake] Water Management Units, as defined by the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), will enable easier implementation of features included in the Atchafalaya Basin Program&nbsp;East Grand Lake Project, which was approved in the FY2012 Annual Plan of the Basin Program.<\/p>\n<p>The land is also part of a large area in the lower Floodway which has not been protected by easements being acquired by the&nbsp;USACE.<\/p>\n<p>The Friends of the Atchafalaya support this effort and will continue to work with The Nature Conservancy to protect, conserve and restore the Atchafalaya Basin ecosystem.<\/p>\n<p>crc\/30<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On July 2, 2015, The Nature Conservancy announced the&nbsp;addition of 5,359 acres in the Atchafalaya River Basin to their&nbsp;preserve system!&nbsp;The&nbsp;acquisition in the Bayou Sorrel region &#8220;marks&nbsp;the first step in a long-term vision to conserve and restore America\u2019s great swamp forest.&#8221; according to the press release.
