Approximately 65 people plus a 5 piece band showed up for reports on the plans for the center and the Atchafalaya East Watershed Study. The Center is being built by Iberville Parish and the Study is being undertaken by the parishes of Pointe Coupee, Iberville and West Baton Rouge through Earth Consulting Group.

Sandra Thompson of the LA Dept. of Natural Resources and Grosse Tete Mayor Michael Chauffe welcomed the group. Rep. Karen St. Germain and John Clark of Iberville Parish talked about the importance of working together for continued progress in the Atchafalaya Basin, and Architect Brad Guerin and Earth Con’s Barton Rogers talked about the projects. FOA Board President Miriam Davey announced the official non-profit status of the Friends and invited all participants to join the organization.

Iberville Parish, State Agency and volunteer boats took 50 people up and down the bayou on a 1 hour ride to view the work that Iberville Parish has been doing along Bayou Grosse Tete. Iberville Parish then treated the guests to a lunch at David’s Catering in Grosse Tete.
