Wood Storks & More at South Farm

John Clark of Iberville Parish reports that the turnout was outstanding at South Farm a few weeks ago, by both the observers and the birds.

Iberville officials and dozens of other folks attended the Wood Stork event at the Sherborne WMA – South Farms on July 18, 2009.  The Parish is exploring the potential for promoting bird watching in Iberville.  They believe birding is an untapped resource.  On that day, they met folks from Lake Charles, Zachary, Clinton, Mandeville, Houma, and New Orleans at the gathering; however, they didn’t notice anyone from Iberville Parish.  John said, “I guess they see this kind of stuff often.  The wood storks were a spectacle to see.  They were about 500 of them and they were mingling with Rosette Spoonbills, Glossy Ibises, Herons, and black necked stilts.”

Another tough day working for the Parish…

Hope you made it out there. I didn’t, but there’s always the next time… or is there?

If you think the birds are important, let your parish officials know, as well as the legislature and the agency officials.
Squeaky birds get the worms.

Below are some photos that John took.
