Louisiana Department of Natural Resources, The Nature Conservancy of Louisiana to sign agreement on Friday, May 15

The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources and The Nature Conservancy of Louisiana will be signing a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on issues and projects affecting the Atchafalaya Basin on Friday, May 15.

The official signing of the agreement between the two parties will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Atchafalaya Welcome Center at Butte La Rose, just off exit 121 on I-10.

Media is invited for the signing and to hear comments by representative of both parties on the agreement.

The Memorandum of Understanding generally includes provisions on information sharing and planning of projects and research on the Basin.

“The Atchafalaya Basin is one of our state’s signature features, and it is appropriate that we should work with a group such as The Nature Conservancy to ensure we are doing the best job we can in preserving it,” said Department of Natural Resources Secretary Scott Angelle. “This agreement is very much in the spirit of the new planning process for the Basin, approved by the state Legislature last year, calling for transparency and a science-based approach to protecting the Basin.”
