Heritage Area Meeting

Debra Credeur, Executive Director of the Atchafalaya National Heritage Area, reports that the regular meeting of the Atchafalaya Trace Commission is Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at 1:00 PM at the Capital Park Welcome Center.  The Trace Commission oversees the development and management of the Atchafalaya National Heritage Area and in the process of developing a management plan for the area. If you haven’t already submitted your comments on the plan, you should do so soon. The first phase of public commenting is over but there will be more chances before the plan is finalized. One way to have input is to attend the Trace Commission meetings, hear the ideas, and offer your input.

The Tuesday meeting will review the goals of the plan, hear about a proposal for a wetlands nature trail near the Butte LaRose Visitor Center, and discuss plans for signage around the area. The Capitol Park Welcome Center is on the River Road, next to the Pentagon buildings. You can park in the lot next to the levee or in the garage south of the Center.
